Both petrol and diesel engine options are available with the Toyota Furtuner. The 2.7 litre petrol engine produces a power of 166PS and 245Nm and can be mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine is very refined and starts in a rather quiet manner, just as one would expect. The changing of gears is extremely smooth, hassle free and shock free. Though, the engine does get the option of turbo-charging because it is undoubtedly a heavy vehicle and results in lower fuel efficiency. 

The 2.8 diesel engine produces a power of 177PS and the manual transmission produces a torque of 420Nm whereas the automatic transmission produces a torque of 450Nm. The diesel is said to perform slightly better compared to the petrol engine and produces no turbo lag whatsoever. The drivability and journey are pretty smooth and effortless. 

The average mileage that the Toyota Fortuner offers is approximately 9.39 kmpl on the city roads and approximately 13.19 kmpl on the highway, which are not the best numbers. The Toyota Fortuner is a 7-seater and the cabin is very comfortable with a great amount of headroom, shoulder room and legroom space. There is a central armrest and little headroom for the middle passenger in the second row which might cause slight discomfort to the passengers seated in the second row. The interiors have a luxurious feel to it and the soft touch plastic and leather upholstery speak volumes of the premium quality of Toyota. The black theme of the interiors is merged with silver and gloss black accents. 

The seating is pretty high and the driver’s seat can be electronically height adjusted and reclined. The steering can be easily adjusted as well. There is lots of space to place things and the cabin has a very lounge like appeal to it. Its very comfortable for the passengers in the second row and it is very easy to get into the third row as well. There is ample of space in the third row too. The interiors are practical yet chic while being noise cancelling, which just means that every journey that is taken in the Fortuner is bound to be a memorable and comfortable one. 

 
The body is unlike any other SUV and in fact the Toyota Fortuner has set a benchmark. The robust and masculine structure can look a little intimidating but the buyers seem to really enjoy the appeal of the Fortuner. The front of the SUV comes with the Toyota logo on the three-slat chrome grille and the sleek headlamps along with LED projector headlamps and LED daytime running lamps too. The chrome finishing stretches along to the sides and the C-pillar. The chrome design runs and wraps around the D-pillar as well. The spoilers are placed strategically and the big FORTUNER embossing on the chrome strip managed to tie the whole look together. 

The 18-inch alloy wheels in the 4WD give the structure even more height while the 17-inch alloy wheels in the 2WD are just as good for giving the car a heighted look. Other small details that make the Fortuner look like it does include, the fitted roof rails, black cladding and the macho-looking side step. As expected, the safety measures taken by Toyota for the Fortuner are unlike anything else. The Fortuner gets 7 airbags, antilock brakes with electronic stability brakeforce distribution (EBD). ISOFIX mounts are provided for in the second-row seats for child seats and 3-point seat belts are offered for all the 7 travelers. 

The automatic variants of the Fortuner get Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Assist Control and the 4WD variant gets Downhill Assist Control. Other features available in the Toyota Fortuner are multi-functional steering wheel and there is also a detailed driver info system. The touchscreen multimedia system is also available, but the provision of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are not made available. The Fortuner also gets a single-zone climate control system with rear ac vents and electrical adjustable driver’s seat. There is not much that the driver or passenger would ask for, that is not already available in the SUV. 

The price point can be a little worrisome for some, but the features, performance, body and all things good that the Fortuner offers easily compensates for the price. With the number of units of the Fortuner that are being sold it would be silly not to believe it’s credibility. However, an upgrade in the infotainment system would be appreciated with an inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
