Ford EcoSport

The all new Ford EcoSport is BS6 compliant and offers both petrol and diesel engine types. The 1.5 litre petrol engine produces a power of 123PS at 6500rpm and torque of 150Nm at 4500rpm. The motor is well refined and the travel is comfortable even when the driving speed is increased and the acceleration doesn’t cause any kind of jerking. 

The 1.5 litre diesel engine produces a power of 100PS and torque of 205Nm and is also as refined as the petrol engine with no sudden jerking in power delivery. Both petrol and diesel engines offer strong performance and minimum disturbance. When the EcoSport is driven at a steady speed it claims to conserve a good amount of fuel as well. The petrol engines of the Ford EcoSport are available with a choice between the 5-speed manual transmission or the 6-speed automatic transmission while the diesel engine of the EcoSport only gets a 5-speed manual transmission option. This is one area where the Ford EcoSport could do with some improvement. 

The 3 cylinder 1.5 litre petrol engine offers an average mileage fuel of 15.9 kmpl with the manual transmission & 14.7 kmpl with the automatic transmission while the 1.5 litre diesel engine offers an average mileage of 21.7 kmpl with the manual transmission. The overall performance and the drivability of the Ford EcoSport is good and would be great for city usage as compared to usage on the highway. The fuel tank capacity of the Ford EcoSport is 52 litres. 

The Ford EcoSport gets an all new dark matte finishing around the grille in the front and around the headlights and fog lamps. The headlights are bright HID units that feature smoked lenses. The roof is black painted as is the roof rails. New 16-inch sporty alloy wheels have been incorporated that bring a little definition to the structure. The top end variant also gets an electric sunroof. 

Other features that define the structure of the Ford EcoSport are power fold mirrors with puddle lamps, daytime running lights, electrochromic mirror, rain sensing wipers and smart entry with captive touch on the door handle. To bind the whole look together not only is the front grille matte and painted black, the rear-view mirrors are painted black as well. The bonnet is dual-tone painted and gets decals on the doors too. The body and structure are compact and sporty yet has a distinctive and impactful personality to it. 

The Ford EcoSport does not have an aggressive appeal to it and has a rather friendly character to it compared to the other cars in its segment have a slightly more robust and aggressive demeanor which sets the Ford EcoSport apart from the rest. The length of the Ford EcoSport is 3998mm, width is 1765mm, height is 1647mm and the wheelbase is 2519mm. The Ford EcoSport is available in colors moondust silver, lightning blue, diamond white, race red, canyon ridge, absolute black and smoke grey.

The 5-seater SUV offers a cabin that is comfortable and gets cognac accents to break the monotony of the all black interiors and that just seems to adds a sense of uniformity. The legroom available in the cabin is quite sufficient. On the dashboard is the 8-inch SYNC3 touchscreen infotainment system which is responsive, intuitive and bright. This feature is available in all variants apart from the entry level variant. The infotainment system is easy to operate and syncs with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and embedded navigation. 

The instrument cluster is a modern 4.3-inch unit. The front seats as well as the rear seats are wide and the cushioning is extremely comfortable. The rear sears also get an armrest that fold down and so do the front seats. The other features available in the cabin include multicolor footwell ambient lighting and auto dimming mirror that reduces glare and makes it easier to drive during the night time. For added comfort and space, the rear seats of the Ford EcoSport get a 60:40 split. The boot space available in the Ford EcoSport is 352 litres. 

Safety features available in the Ford EcoSport include 6 airbags, power packed and superior build, emergency assistance, Anti-lock braking system and Electronic brake force distribution, electric stability control and hill launch assist. The Ford MyKey feature provides an extra element of safety by allowing the drivers to set speed warnings, activate seat belt reminder and limit the car’s top speed. Other safety and convenience features include, rear view camera, cruise control with adjustable speed limiter device and climate control. 

The all new Ford EcoSport has several qualities that make it one of the few desirable SUV’s currently available. This sub-compact SUV is fun to drive and all the variants are well equipped. City travel in the EcoSport is easy because of the quality of the engine and also because of the shape and size of the car, since it doesn’t take up too much space and neither does it make it difficult to drive in the hustle bustle of the city. A few valid arguments against the Ford EcoSport is that it does not get an automatic diesel transmission which limits variety, the cabin is not spacious and makes it difficult to seat 5 adults, the suspension setup is stiff and the ISOFIX child seat anchors are available only in the top end variants.
