    Skoda Kushaq Review

    Variations:

Kushaq is available in five different colours namely Tornado Red, Honey Orange, Candy White, Carbon Steel and Reflex Silver. They also have variations in engine options across three variants which are as follows: Active, Ambition and Style.

    European Engine & its performance:

There is addition of the usual 1.0 litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine producing 113bhp and 178 Nm of torque as well as European based engine of 1.5 litre four cylinder, TSI petrol engine producing 148bhp and 250 Nm of torque. The benefit of this is a six-speed automatic unit and a seven-speed DSG automatic unit as an option along with the usual six-speed manual unit. If not just this, Kushaq has a new technology termed as ‘Active Cylinder Technology (ACT)' which automatically deactivates the two cylinders under less loading thus saving the fuel usage. It is a car model based on the DSG armed version. Driving Kushaq is smooth and creamy like flowing through the roads with a levitating tachometer under 2,000 rpm mark. Shifting gears in this model is easy as well as drama-free highway rides. Even though Kushaq doesn’t have disc brakes, it has strong brakes which can be used with ease. It also offers paddle shifters along with the DSG Gear which keeps the revs stable in redline and upshifting on its own.

    Road Performance and ride experience:

Knowing the rough patches and paths of our road, Kushaq has been designed to perform well with 205/55 section tyres encased in 17-inch alloy wheels. The rides in Kushaq, as a result are shock free and absorbent giving the riders an easy drive. Despite having a known moment of hardness, it performs quite well on highways with little vertical movements over larger fluctuations. The steering wheel is also well-weighted providing a relaxed shift and steering response with less lagging in centre. Although Kushaq does not have drive modes which could have enabled steer altering and throttle response, it still complies to most of the response related to road performance and handling while driving.

    Interior Innovation:

Hopping inside this model is pretty easy with a spot-on seat with appropriate height proportion. In addition to this, the cabin appears to be divergent. The analogue dials for speedometer and tachometer seem to belong to old school giving classic driver display to the inside. The one thing that stands out is the newly designed steering wheel which derives its design from the Octavia model. It has also got floating rollers on either side though the buttons on the steering wheel lacks a tangible feel. On the design aspect, the piano-striped black covers most of the dashboard with dotted texture integrated above it. Also there is a chrome strip joining the air vents vertically on the extreme ends of the dashboard. This looks overdone in the model and there could have been better utilization of plastic in door handles, lower dashboard and centre console.

It doesn’t mean there aren’t good innovations. The new added 10 inch infotainment system is a feature from the costly Skodas model and this gives the model a regal feel. The touch response and navigation are easy to use on a daily basis. Aside from this, Skoda also provides mobile telephony with the help of applications like Android Auto and Apple Carplay and MirrorLink with collaboration with third parties for music, navigation and audiobooks. One notable thing is that Skoda has allocated only USB-C type charging ports instead of the standard USB-A ports in the Kushaq.

For the automatic climate control on the centre console, Skoda had allocated a feather- touch screen similar to the ones in Honda City. This might cause problems while driving. Another difficulty could be posed by blank buttons which are present in strips on the centre console which are hazard, door-unlock button and buttons for ventilated seats.

There is space in the legs area as compared to other SUV models, along with armrest cupholder mounted in the backseat, and backseat AC Vents. Skoda Kushaq also has significant features like an electric sunroof. Other features include ambient lighting, wireless charging, auto headlamps and wipers, rear parking camera, auto-dimming IRVM and cruise control. On the comfort aspect, Kushaq has made sure to have comfortable seating arrangements with enough support to back and shoulder. The other focus of Skoda Kushaq was on the safety aspect as they included six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, multi-collision braking assistance, TPMS, roll-over protection, hill-hold control, ISOFIX child-seat mounts and many more.

    External Beauty:

Externally Kushaq has much to offer than meets the eye with the trademark butterfly grille with black vertical slats and chrome surround, LED headlamps with L shaped LED DRLS, Fog lights, Roof rails to name a few. Its handsome exterior might bring some footfall in the showroom.

    Other Details:

It is designed to give a mileage range of 15.78 to 17.88 kmpl and its engine speed is 999 to 1498 cc. The price range for Skoda Kushaq ranges from 10.79 Lakh to 18.00 Lakh. Combined with its attractive design and unique features, customers are sure to love it.

    Final Call:

While Skoda Kushaq has a lot riding in for it, it will take more than its current features and innovation to be a showstopper. The design for the Kushaq model is sharp but its small exterior might have robbed it of the potential it could have shown. Not only this, there are elements which were better not included in the model and it could be improvised in those aspects. The four seater model could have had a better boot space to target the customers with bigger families. The petrol engine can also be worked on. Overall, Skoda Kushaq is a model worthy of praise for trying to bring change while having its share of improvements. The customers might love the SUV for European built as it still is comfortable for daily use. Looking forward, it will be interesting to see how Kushaq develops itself as the market gains momentum.

The feature included in Skoda Kushaq is its top quality dashboards, chrome accents, shiny glass panels on passenger seat, sporty air vents on one side. It also includes a system for infotainment with wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple Carplay which adds to the beauty of interior of car.

For petrol options, Skoda Kushaq provides a 1.0 - litre three cylinder turbo engine and a 1.5 - litre turbo petrol unit. Both of them come with six-speed manual gearbox. This feature maximizes the driving output and gives the audience their own customized setting for driving.

Skoda Auto India doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon with their goal of bringing more models to India along with increasing touchpoints. They also aim to make available their new models in small cities as well resulting in expanding their region of business with huge boost to their sales growth. This year Skoda managed to achieve a growth in South India by 90% having increased their customer touchpoints by 84%. Their customer-centric approach will be worthy to see in the future market.
