The octane number of fuel isn’t normally a subject of dialogue among owners of most mass-market cars but it’s a crucial one for those that own high-performance models usually within the luxury segment. Indian Oil has now introduced a replacement benchmark of premium grade petrol in India, rated at a 100 Octane, and branded XP100.
While high-octane premium fuel offers little to no benefits to most models, it helps extract the utmost performance from sports cars. This includes models from the likes of Porsche, BMW M, Mercedes-AMG then on. Indian Oil has produced this new 100 Octane petrol at its own Mathura Refinery using the company’s OCTAMAX technology. aimed toward the luxury/sports car segment, the XP100 comes at a hefty premium. In Delhi, it’s priced at Rs 160 per litre which is nearly double the present rate of normal petrol.
The normal petrol offered in India is rated at 91 Octane and works best for many cars. However, the upper octane allows for better acceleration in performance engines while also improving engine life. it’s a premium grade of petrol offered in most developed countries catering to the high-end vehicle market.
Indian Oil intends to supply the new XP100 petrol across 15 cities in India. it’s already been made available at select fuel pumps in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Agra, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. within the second phase, it’ll be available in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. These cities are selected supported the supply of high-end cars and other demographics.
