Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun have discontinued offering automatic electric folding ORVMs for their entire range. The global shortage in semiconductor chips has had a major impact on nearly all automotive OEMs around the globe. We believe that OEMs will also have to deal with the shortage of semiconductor chips, as the crisis is not likely to end soon.
Modern automobiles are packed with technology and gadgets, so they need more semiconductors for manufacturing. Skoda and Volkswagen have taken the electric folding ORVMs from their respective compact SUVs, Taigun and Kushaq. Kushaq, Taigun — Auto Folding ORVM Feature Removed. This was noticed by a Twitter user, who asked Zac Hollis, Skoda India Director about the omission. The Skoda India Director, Zac Hollis confirmed that the feature was deleted due to a shortage of semiconductor chips. Ashish Kulkarni, an automotive enthusiast, shared the update. These chips have adversely affected automobile production around the world. OEMs were forced to eliminate certain features from some models in order to keep production going.
All variants of both SUVs now come with manual folding ORVMs, according to the company’s website. However, it is not clear if electric adjusts for ORVMs are still possible. This could be seen as a cost-cutting move, since automobile input costs have increased exponentially in recent months. Both SUV prices were recently increased by as much as Rs 45,000 earlier in the month.
The features available Other features are not included in the SUVs. The SUVs share many common features, such as the 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, MirrorLink, ventilated front seats, climate control, ambient lighting, an auto climate controller, and auto climate control. There are also cooled glove boxes, an electric sunroof, and wireless charging. Taigun also offers a fully-digital instrument console, as opposed to the semi-digital one in Kushaq. Both models have six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC and multi-collision braking. They also offer roll-over protection, brake disk wiping, hill hold controller, and TPMS. The former produces 114 bhp, 178 Nm peak torque and the latter a 148 bhp, 250 Nm peak torque. Both engine options come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. The 1.0-litre engine comes with a 6-speed torque converter, while the 1.5-litre model has the option of a seven-speed DSG transmission. Kushaq comes in three trims: Style, Ambition, or Active. Prices start at Rs 10.79 lakh, with a maximum of Rs 17.99 lakh ex-showroom. Taigun can be classified into two broad trims, Dynamic Line or Performance Line. These are further sub-trims, Comfortline, Highline and Topline, GT and GT Plus. Taigun is currently available at VW for Rs 10.99-17.99 lakh (excl. showroom).
