The latest generation of the Hyundai i20 premium hatchback brings with it some fresh design, added features and an updated powertrain lineup. It gets an equivalent engines because the Venue which incorporates the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine but only with the 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions. We had the prospect to place the turbocharged i20 with the DCT automatic through our fuel efficiency test and these are our findings:
Engine | 1.0-litre turbo-petrol |
Power | 120PS |
Torque | 172Nm |
Transmission | 7-speed dual-clutch automatic |
Claimed fuel efficiency | 20.28kmpl |
Tested fuel efficiency (City) | 12.06kmpl |
Tested fuel efficiency (Highway) | 17.18kmpl |
The turbo-petrol i20 with its pricey DCT automatic gearbox falls an extended way in need of its claimed mileage figures, especially in city driving. We were only ready to get a mileage of 12.06kmpl within the city, which is 8.22kmpl but the ARAI certified figure. The efficiency improved greatly on the highways but was still 3.1kmpl in need of the claimed mileage. ARAI figures are supported mileage achieved in controlled and simulated test conditions, which is why they’re usually above what’s usually achieved in world conditions.
Based on the results of our real-world fuel efficiency tests within the city and on the highway, we’ve estimated how this variant of the i20 would fare in mixed driving conditions:
City:Highway Ratio | 50:50 | 25:75 | 75:25 |
Mileage | 14.17kmpl | 15.53kmpl | 13.03kmpl |
If you drive equal parts within the city and on the highway, you’ll expect the i20 turbo-petrol DCT to deliver a touch over 14kmpl. just in case most of your driving mileage is out on the highway, the i20 DCT can deliver 15.5kmpl. However, if you’ll be using it mostly within the city, you’ll expect to urge 13kmpl from this variant of the i20.
It is worth noting that fuel efficiency figures depend upon a mixture of driving style, the car’s condition and therefore the driving conditions. So your experience may vary from ours and if you own the new i20 turbo-petrol DCT, be happy to share your findings with us within the comments.
