The Director of Skoda Auto India, Zac Hollis, has revealed the launch date of the fourth-gen Skoda Octavia on Twitter. The sedan was set to launch around September 2020 but had to be postponed thanks to the continued COVID-19 pandemic and can now arrive by early 2021. The next-gen Octavia gets design and have updates over the previous model.
Starting from the front, the fourth-generation Octavia will get a much bigger trademark Skoda butterfly grille and can not have the LED split-headlamp setup. Instead, the sedan will get conventionally styled LED headlamp units and new LED fog lamps. A revised tailgate, split taillights , restyled 17-inch alloy wheels, and SKODA lettering complete the redesigned look.
The fourth-gen Octavia footprints will see a rise on most fronts. it’ll be 19mm longer and 15mm wider than the present model. While the ride height too will see a rise over the Euro-spec model, the wheelbase will remain an equivalent , at 2686mm.
The new Octavia also will accompany a bunch of latest features and a rather revised cabin. a replacement dashboard layout is complemented by a replacement two-spoke wheel . Other features changes include a replacement 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology and a digital assistant, and a rather smaller 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster.
In India, Skoda is predicted to pair the Octavia with a 150PS 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine and a 190PS 2.0-litre petrol engine, which should be reserved for the top-spec variants. the choice of a manual transmission is perhaps getting to be taken out of the equation with only a 7-speed DSG gearbox on offer. No diesel powertrain is predicted to be offered at launch.
The await the fourth-generation Octavia may have just gotten longer but it’ll be worthwhile . The beefed-up vRS version of the new Octavia could also make it to our shores in CBU form as is that the case with the outgoing model. The BS4 Octavia retailed from Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 25.99 lakh but the fourth-gen will come at a premium and still combat the likes of the Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic.
