Volkswagen Polo Fuel Efficiency

Volkswagen introduced the BS6-updated Polo in March 2020. it’s now a petrol-only offering and comes with either a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine or a replacement 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit that was earlier offered on the GT variant has now been discontinued. The carmaker has also replaced the previously offered 7-speed DSG gearbox with a replacement 6-speed converter unit. We took the Polo GT variant, equipped with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to the 6-speed AT, for our fuel efficiency test and here’s what the numbers reveal:

Engine1.0-litre Turbo-petrol
Power110PS
Torque175Nm
Transmission6-speed AT
Claimed fuel efficiency16.47kmpl
Tested fuel efficiency (City)14.05kmpl
Tested fuel efficiency (Highway)17.69kmpl

While the 6-speed AT-equipped Polo GT delivered a mileage of a touch over 14kmpl within the city, it surpassed the ARAI-claimed figure by quite 1kmpl on the highway.

MileageCity:Highway (50:50)City:Highway (25:75)City:Highway (75:25)
15.66kmpl16.61kmpl14.81kmpl

If you employ the hatchback majorly within the cities, the Polo GT with the AT gearbox will return a fuel efficiency of around 15kmpl. On the opposite hand, if it’s used mainly on wide stretches of roads and highways, the fuel efficiency will go up by almost 2kmpl. When the 6-speed AT-equipped Polo GT is driven equally within the city and on the highway, expect the figure to hover around 15kmpl.

Volkswagen offers an equivalent engine-gearbox combo on the higher-spec Highline Plus variant also , so you’ll expect similar fuel efficiency.
